# API Roadmap

Today's stable integration surfaces are [OAI-PMH metadata harvesting](/developers/en-US/protocols/oai-pmh), [IIIF](/developers/en-US/protocols/iiif), [CIDOC-CRM linked data](/developers/en-US/protocols/linked-data), and admin-generated [bulk export packages](/developers/en-US/formats/export-packages). These are read-only, standards-based, and safe to build a lasting integration against.

A general-purpose REST API for creating, updating, or programmatically searching records is **planned but not yet available**. There's no timeline to share yet, and no endpoints beyond what's documented in this section exist today.

Until that ships, build against the documented surfaces above rather than any undocumented behavior you might observe — anything not described in these pages is an implementation detail that can change without notice. If you need a capability these surfaces don't cover, the museum you're integrating with is the right point of contact: they can generate a fresh export, adjust what's included in it, or flag the gap.
